Texas International Education Consortium’s Business & Entrepreneurship Virtual Exchange (BEVEX) prepares business and entrepreneurship faculty members from universities in Iraq and Texas, U.S., to design and implement virtual exchanges in their own courses. Faculty members explore resources and strategies to incorporate cross-cultural communication, cultural and global competencies, and language-learning goals into their own virtual exchange programs. After participating in a virtual exchange firsthand, faculty facilitate thoughtful project-based exchanges in their own courses on a variety of business and entrepreneurship topics. Their students will develop professional skills, global digital literacy, cultural appreciation and understanding, and intercultural collaboration and communication.


This virtual exchange includes two components. First, business and entrepreneurship faculty learn to design and develop virtual exchange programs and incorporate them into their courses. The training includes activities such as program mapping, planning, and design, technology integration, and critical thinking skills. Second, they will then conduct these exchange programs by bringing their students from Iraq and Texas, U.S., together to complete a project-based exchange to develop their professional skills and simultaneously fulfill course objectives for all students. Examples of these activities include a final pitch and plan, opportunity analysis, business plan, value creation and delivery exercise, and a new venture concept, among many other possibilities.

BEVEX is implemented by Texas International Education Consortium and is supported by the J. Christopher Stevens Virtual Exchange Initiative (JCSVEI). JCSVEI is a U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs program administered by the Aspen Institute.
