• High School/Grades 9-12

Culturingua’s Alliance of Young World Actionists is a seven-week virtual exchange for public high school students in Libya and San Antonio, U.S. Students learn how improvements in the WIN Network’s Vital Conditions for Health and Well-Being framework can prevent clinical health problems, determine a challenge that exists in a particular community today, and create a plan of action for change in that community.

Activities

Groups work in small teams to build critical 21st century global competency skills, better understand local and global health challenges, and brainstorm a solution or initiative of their own. Participants present their ideas for how to improve one of the Well-Being in the Nation Network’s Vital Conditions for Health and Well-Being (food, humane housing, and other properties that we all need all the time to reach our full potential) to local leaders during a culminating event celebrating and recognizing students’ learning achievements. Participants build and improve social justice learning outcomes, which include investigating the world beyond their immediate environment; recognizing their own and others’ perspectives; engaging in open, appropriate, and effective interactions across cultures; and translating their ideas into appropriate action to improve conditions.
